A Supportive space to discover and grow; to become who you are.

What is supervision?

Supervision provides a reflective space in which you can explore all aspects of your practice for the benefit of your clients. We may focus on any or all of the following: your clinical work, your personal/professional development, the context of your practice, developing your own praxis and the impact of societal/global events on your practice.

Who can use supervision?

Supervision is beneficial for anyone who may carry an emotional load as part of their practice. This could be more obvious professions like counselling, coaching, advocacy, nursing, support workers etc but may also include customer service, helpline staff, teachers, managers or researchers. The list is not exhaustive, please email me at lw.counselling@outlook.com if you think that you or your organisation could benefit from supervision.

What is the benefit of supervision?

As helping professionals it is vital that we maintain an ethical practice, supervision provides a container in which to explore ethical dilemmas as they arise and, more generally, to sound out the ethical underpinning of your practice. Supervision can also be used to assess whether you are working within your competence and identify areas for further development. Helping professions can often be quite isolating, with a lot of 1:1 contact time with clients; a supervisory relationship can feel collegiate and give you some professional grounding outside of yourself.

  • Social Change

As practitioners we have the potential to enact social change through the support we provide to our clients, the organisations we work for, the CPD we take up/deliver, the groups we become members of and what we advocate for within and outside of our professions.

  • Development

You can develop your practice by exploring the values and beliefs that guide your work. We may look at ways for you to feel more resourced and to have increased confidence in your competency. This is a collaborative learning environment, please bring your full self and I will do the same, together we will grow.

  • Client Focus

Supervision may be a helpful space to identify a client focus or an audience for project work. Together, we can look for themes, areas of special interest and competency so that you can develop a clearer vision for your practice.

  • Competence

It is important to challenge imposter syndrome when it arises, especially as those of us with marginalised identities are more likely to feel this due to social barriers. Identifying growth areas is equally important so that at all times you are mindful of the limits of your competence.
